At UTDesign, we had the privilege of showing Dr. Roland Benke, President of Tac-Alert and Charlotte Benke, Operations Manager, a tour of the UTDesign Studio.

We are proud to collaborate with Tac-Alert, a radiation detection equipment company that produces the world first wearable directional hand free personal radiation detector. Dr. Roland proposed a project for a problem he faced, as a startup he did not have software engineers on staff to create an interface to send data directly to the  law enforcement network for additional analysis and oversight.  UTDesign was able to offer the perfect solution.

In Spring 2021, four computer science students worked on a mobile application for Tac-Alert’s wearable device that provide a simple and effective user interface. The newly developed cross platform ensures the app has consistent performance across both Android and iOS for maximum compatibility. The goal of the app is to enable law enforcement agencies to track radiation levels of people on the ground.

Watch as Dr. Roland Benke, President at Tac-Alert highlight his experience with UTDesign capstone and how the students of the capstone project excelled in developing an app for situational awareness wearables.
