UTDesign Teams Shine at Capstone Design Conference
June 21, 2024
Our UTDesign Capstone program proudly announces that two of its student teams were selected to participate in the Capstone Design Conference in Knoxville, Tennessee. Demonstrating exceptional innovation and engineering skill, both teams stood out among 17 teams from 14 top universities across the United States.
The ARBU (Automatic Rescue Breathing Unit) 3.0 team project, presented by Lana Vu and Michael Jost, secured an impressive 2nd place national award with their groundbreaking project. The ARBU, a non-electronic device, delivers resuscitation breaths, allowing minimally trained personnel to potentially triple the survival rate of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims. Their success, following four consecutive first-place awards in the past four Capstone Design Conferences, highlights the caliber of talent and creativity fostered within the UTDesign Capstone program. Other team members included Saad Akhtar, Nand Mehta, Jimmy Crisp and Jorge Castillo.)
Additionally, the Built-in CPR Backboard team project, presented by Miguel Enriquez Salgado and Efrain Gutierrez, was recognized as a national finalist at the conference. Their innovative design eliminates the need to insert a stiff backboard to begin CPR, allowing CPR to start sooner and increasing patient survivability. Other team members included Jason Fisher, Durga Kayeti, Musa Salman and John Franco.
UTDesign Capstone continues to be a leader in national engineering education, providing students with the opportunities and support to excel at these competitions. For more information on partnering with talented students for your company’s engineering and computer science needs, contact us today.
