Fabrication Shop

The UTDesign fabrication shop is an area for the modification or fabrication of parts and items that are integral to our students’ success. The shop is well-equipped with powered and unpowered tools capable of working wood, foam, plastics and soft metals.

The fabrication shop is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and offers 24 X 7 access only for STMs (Student Tool Masters) and students who have completed the in-person training.

Access to the shop area is limited due to the risk and dangers inherent to the operation of equipment and tools located in that area. Students can gain supervised access to the shop after completing the required online training courses as well as reading and signing the “Shop Safety Guidelines” document; these rules and training courses are designed to keep students from seriously injuring themselves or others.

To gain supervised access to the fabrication shop, students need to pass a series of online training:

  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • General Safety Orientation
  • Shop Safety (Hand and Power Tool Safety)
  • Fire Extinguisher Course

The online training courses can be located at https://utd.bioraft.com. They are under “Training/Course Directory”
