The Fortus 400 3-D printer produced by Stratasys is available in the UTDesign Studio for anybody at UT Dallas to use. It creates three-dimensional objects from computer files.

The Fortus 400 uses the FDM printing process and builds parts as large as 406 x 355 x 406 mm (16 x 14 x 16 in.). With four layer thicknesses to choose from (.005, .007, .01, and .013 inches) users can fine-tune detail resolution and build speed, or a balance of both.

To submit your work for printing, email the Fabrication Department with the following information:

  • Team Name
  • Contact Information (name, email, phone number)
  • UT Dallas Advisor
  • Material (table below)
  • STL file (attached)
  • Number of copies

Your work cannot be processed if the file sent does not have the right file extension.  ONLY .STL files can be printed.

After your work has been submitted, you will get a cost estimate from us.  The printing process starts only after we have a confirmation from you accepting the cost estimate.

If you are a UTDesign Capstone student:

After the submission of a job request, a cost estimate will be submitted to the student team and their faculty advisor for approval.

The printing process does not start until we receive approval from the team’s faculty advisor accepting the estimate of the job and the work of the team.

Students will be contacted via email once their 3-D object is ready. The final cost is billed to the team’s project. All completed 3D prints can be picked up in the Tool Crib (Room 1.514).

The table below helps estimate the cost of a job sent to the UTDesign 3-D printer if you are a UTDesign student or if you are associated with the university.
