HoboLoco is a company that specializes in creating alternative methods of locomotion for virtual reality gaming. The goal of this project is to design a prototype for Magic Feet, a foot-based locomotion controller that can deliver an immersive VR experience while minimizing movement in real space. Using different foot positions and sensors to control character movement within the VR environment, these devices will provide a realistic gaming experience for the user. The team designed a set of foot-operated controllers which are lightweight, adjustable and can be worn by a variety of users. They contain several built-in sensors which can detect the different foot positions. The devices connect directly to the Oculus Quest via Bluetooth and sends out data that is processed within the Unity game engine to create player movement. Magic Feet separates hand controls from locomotion and allows the user to move freely through virtual space.
