Thinking of starting a UTDesign Capstone project, but don’t know where to start?

Make a note of the following steps, and you’ll be on your way to a successful Capstone project.

  1. Have a clear goal for the project.

Brainstorm and gather some ideas about possible projects that will fulfill the short term/long term goals for your organization. Fill out the project proposal form with all the requirements. Schedule a meeting with the appropriate UTDesign Capstone Faculty Director to discuss topic ideas and project scope.

  • Scope the project accurately.

Managing expectations for the project scope and the deliverables is crucial for a project’s success. The project scope is designed to have a rigorous yet achievable “minimally viable product” and a couple of stretch goals.

  • Get the right team members.

Documenting the skills required for the project will help the Faculty Directors assemble the optimal student team to deliver the project solution.

  • Know when you can launch your team.

Below is the schedule for the launch of UTDesign Capstone projects, based on the project type.  Note that engineering projects are two semesters and computer science projects are one semester in length.

Launching a UTDesign Capstone project with us also involves a project mentor and sponsorship funding, which will be covered soon in future blogs.
