UTDesign Team Places Second at ASME Conference

Automated Wire Insulation Sampler

In addition to a first-place winning team, another UTDesign Capstone team won second place at the 2019 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference. The team created an “Automated Wire Insulation Sampler” for Encore Wire Corporation designed to utilize automated blades to remove a sample of insulation from a wire as it moves down a production line. The machine applies a trolley system, actuators, and custom blades during the insulation removal process. The system features polycarbonate casing, custom blades, a trolley system for speed, and impact resistance within its user-friendly design.
