UTDesign Team Creates Kidney Monitoring Device to Win Biomedical Engineering EXPO

The first-place winners of the Fall 2019 Biomedical Engineering UTDesign EXPO developed a “Real-Time Kidney Monitoring” device, sponsored by UT Southwestern, to identify acute kidney injury (AKI) in real time. AKI represents an abrupt decline in kidney function, but current strategies to identify AKI are delayed in their identification. The Real-Time Kidney Monitoring device is designed to collect metrics that allow for identification of an at-risk kidney to guide tailored therapy that serves to prevent the progression of AKI. The device is adjustable, modular, and provides an all-in-one mechanism that includes continuous monitoring, Wi-Fi reporting and Google Sheet integration.
