Peterbilt Motors needs to store temporarily inactive or in need of repair Automated Guided Vehicles. The structure must stack vertically and withhold the weight of the AGV of 1100 lb. on each unit. To solve this problem, the team designed an electrical drawer system using structural steel. The floor unit will only require an external structure under which the AGV can drive itself. The goal is to operate the second-level unit as a drawer using a motor and gear mechanism. This will allow the drawer to extend so the AGV can be accessed via the hoist. C channels support the plate and provide housing for the track rollers, which successfully extend and fully retract the system. From our findings, 1/4-inch-thick A36 steel tubes can withhold the external structure of the prototype, and a 3/16-inch-thick plate can fully support the load of an AGV with a factor of safety of 3.
