BENEFITS OF SPONSORING A UTDESIGN CAPSTONE PROJECT

The UTDesign Capstone program is a shining star in the UT Dallas Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, projecting an all-time record of over 300 UTDesign Capstone projects in the current academic year.  In a typical UTDesign Capstone project, senior undergraduate student teams from all types of computer science and engineering disciplines come together to work on a project.  These team-based projects connect company sponsors and mentors to these outstanding students, solving their real-world engineering and software design problems in new and innovative ways.
Why Sponsor a UTDesign Capstone Program?  Here are the Benefits:
Capstone sponsors can expect several benefits from engaging with UT Dallas’ talented computer science and engineering students:
Save Time & Resources
The UTDesign Capstone program allows companies to make progress on their lower-priority projects without expending existing resources or sacrificing productivity. By giving students an opportunity to creatively and innovatively solve real-world problems through the UTDesign Capstone program, companies can focus on other important aspects of their business. Another benefit to companies is that they are able to complete their project with a team of up to six students for a lower cost than one intern.
Recruit Top Talent
The UTDesign Capstone program enables students to gain a better understanding of the technologies of their sponsoring companies. These projects are valuable for companies to assess students and recruit some of the top engineering and computer science talent in the country.
Mentor Future Technology Leaders
When companies partner with our teams of talented seniors, they also support the team with a corporate mentor, who guides the team to build prototypes, simulation models and software programs, depending on the projects. This allows the students to significantly expand their knowledge, learn the complete product and solution development life cycle and showcase their project management skills.
Retain Full Ownership of Project Results
Corporate sponsors own 100% of the IP and project results developed during the course of the project.
Exposure in National Competitions
UTDesign Capstone is constantly creating the next generation of technology leaders, and our nationally-acclaimed UTDesign Capstone program is proof of that. Projects created through this program have won 8 national first-place awards in just 8 national competitions since 2014. Student teams have also won many local and regional awards and recognition, including some patented solutions, such as medical devices.  UT Dallas will be hosting the Capstone Design Conference in 2021 as the three-time defending national champion, with hundreds of universities across the United States and beyond eager to learn our “secret sauce of success.”
Due to the explosive growth of UTDesign Capstone, including a projected 50% increase in UTDesign Capstone projects this academic year, we are constantly seeking engineering and computer science company sponsors and mentors. If you have a backlog of project needs, let our teams of incredible students deliver amazing solutions for your company.
